On January 30, Toyota Group announced a global recall of about 1 million cars. Public information shows that Toyota recalled 752,000 Corolla & Corolla Matrix cars and 270,000 Lexus IS and others in the same series in the United States. In mainland China, a total of 23,000 units of the Lexus IS Series car are involved.

Toyota announced that TOYOTA Corolla, Corolla Matrix, VOLTZ vehicle produced on December 28, 2001 to May 3, 2004 have problems in their air bag control assembly unit (ECU). The recall will be implemented in North America and Japan, recalling a total of about 908,000 vehicles.

In 2012, Toyota recalled a total number of 5 million and paid a compensation cost of approximately $ 1.1 billion.

Toyota's sales performance was not much influenced by repeated recall. On January 28, Toyota announced its car sales reached 9.75 million in 2012, and beat General Motors Corp to be sales champion.
